'I have received your kind gift, Śpiewnik domowy, which pleases me greatly, being as it is a musical composition without compare in our country. It fully confirmed my high estimation of your formidable talent, a talent of the most beautiful hopes... We have had nothing on a par with that yet and if there was a need, if it were necessary to implore a man of your education and creative power, I would insist that you bestow your pieces on us as often as possible.'

This is what Józef Ignacy Kraszewski wrote to Stanisławow Moniuszko to thank him for releasing and sending him a copy of the first volume of Śpiewnik domowy (Songbook for Home Use).
