In its issue of 29 June 1859 (No. 25), Ruch Muzyczny announced that 'G. Gebethner & Co. has just published Rokiczana, a lyrical drama in three acts by Józef Korzeniowski to [be] set to music by S. Moniuszko on the playwright's request. As far as we know, Moniuszko's score is close to complete.' The announcement was overly optimistic: an opera based on Korzeniowski's drama was never finished after censors ordered large fragments of the text to be removed along with the central character of king Casimir III the Great.
