16 June

To his wife, 16 June 1851: '(...) I'm sending you through Zaleski 10 roubles for needles, that is all the things that prick us, the have-nots, on a daily basis. I went round all the more sophisticated shops and found wonderful merchandise, yet all that I wanted to send you was beyond my means and all I could afford right now seemed to me ridiculous. I'll wait for better times to follow the instincts of my heart and send you may warmest hugs and kisses.'
