19 May

The 19 May 1896 issue of Tygodnik Ilustrowany, a Warsaw weekly, published for the first time Moniuszko's Canon for two voices. The piece had been written in 1840, yet had remained widely unknown until the publication. Even today, most of Moniuszko's pieces that are not operas and songs do not get any attention of the general public, which makes Moniuszko a paradox: styled one of the most important Polish composers of all time, the bulk of his oeuvre is uncharted territory for most.
